Waterloo Region is a combined municipality that includes the cities of Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo, plus some smaller townships, with a population of some 500,000; located some 95 km west of Toronto.

Light rail line under construction since summer 2014, opened on 21 June 2019:

- from Conestoga Mall in the City of Waterloo to Fairview Park Mall in the City of Kitchener
- part of ION network, which also includes BRT
- 16.3 km, 16 stops (uni-directional stops counted as half)
- Bombardier Flexity Liberty trams
