Gdańsk, with some 500,000 inhabitants located on the Baltic coast in northern Poland. Part of the Tricity (Trójmiasto) metropolitan area, with a population of approximately 1.5 million.

Besides the tram system, the Gdańsk also has Rapid Railway of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot (SKM), with a train about every 10 minutes similar to a typical S-Bahn, and separate tracks along most of its route between Gdańsk and Gdynia (S1). Other suburban/regional lines are referred to as PKM.
