Metros in Italy - The Book

 System

Minimetrò LogoThe Umbrian capital Perugia (162,000 inh.) boasts a "MiniMetrò®", a 3 km automatic people mover that links the city centre on top of a hill to a large parking area on the foot of the hill.

The system developed by the company Leitner is similar to a funicular railway, but with rubber-tyred cabins that are hauled by a moving rope, but detach from it while stopping in a station. The motor for the rope is installed at the upper terminus Pincetto. The line is double-track, with the trains running on metal beams at a minimum headway of 60 seconds.
